2011 — A Vintage Year
Going into 2011 we both expected it to be, in a very positive way, the first year of the rest of our lives. We both had the bikes we really wanted for the foreseeable future, and we would both now only be working part time, giving us much more time and energy to enjoy our pastimes.
We spent New Year's Day in London and watched the Lord Mayor's Parade
There were a lot of excellent marching bands, many of them visiting from
overseas
It was a very colourful parade and lasted for over two hours
At the end of January we headed off to Lanzarote to get away from the harshest winter for years
In Lanzarote the only place to be on a Sunday morning is Teguise Market
We enjoyed quite a lot of walking on the Papagayo peninsula
We encountered Aladdin on a number of occasions — he'd set up on a path somewhere and harangue passers by
The Bristol Classic Bike show was held in late February
It tends to mostly appeal to the more mature biker!
We spent some time (though perhaps not as much as we should have) on what Janet christened the hard work bikes
There is a great stretch of disused railway called the Strawberry Line not far from our house
In early April we participated in the Ride of Respect from Hullavington Airfield to Wootton Bassett in aid of the Afghan Heroes charity
