Fatehpur Sikri

The ruined city of Fatehpur Sikri is about 25 miles from Agra. It was built in the second half of the 16th century by the Emperor Akbar to be the capital of the Mughal Empire, but abandoned after only about ten years due to a variety of factors, including a shortage of water. Today it is a mysterious and evocative place to visit.
